Bountiful Harvest?

Over Spring Break, Ben and I decided to plant a vegetable garden.  We had big dreams of fresh fruits and lush vegetables on our table.  Nothing seemed more romantic.  And now we can proudly say, we are living the dream!

First step, actually putting a garden bed on the steep slope we have on the side of our townhouse.  Ben built a pretty stone wall to keep the garden looking great.

Look at all of the baby plants.  This was back in April.  Since then, we have had a great showing from the red leaf lettuce, bibb lettuce and arugula.  Unfornately, those days have passed...but we had many wonderful salads from their bounty.  Let's see them again as babes.

Now, we have a new crop rising...the summer fruits.  At this point, the bounty is minimal.  We are talking one pepper on the plant, one tomato.  BUT I'm holding out for the glory days.

Our first tomatoes.  The end of our blueberries.

We also have a few flowers blooming in the front yard.  Once again, they are still small.  I figure our hydrangeas will be stunning in ten years.

One of two blossoms currently.  Hey at least this one looks good!

So as you can see, we have little plants on our hands.  Don't believe me?  Take a look at the front yard :)

Check back in a few years.

Where have you been?

Okay.  As you can see, I have let my blog go.

BUT it is only because I have been very busy in the past few months.

What have I been doing?

Well.... lets start with school.

I had 101 things going on with my program....field trips, county festival, state festival, concerts....it was exhausting but wonderful.  The highlight of the end of year was our annual band trip.  I took my kiddos to New York City with my good buddy and colleague Tom Liddle.  We had a fabulous trip.  The students had the opportunity to perform at Riverside Church on the upper west side.  We had beautiful weather, exciting sight seeing, amazing performances and a teenage dream in Times Square.  Yes, those little middle school hearts were palpitating for Mr. Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe.  We saw him in the show" How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying".

It was like the Beatles came to town.  Screaming.  Shaking.  Fainting...well, almost fainting :)

Then, there was a little show called "Chicago".  It consumed my life for three months, but it was a great experience.  I learned to dance in the Fosse style, which was quite fun.  A big departure from the land of teaching band, where balding heads and thick mustaches are the norm.  Its probably the only time I will ever be able to wear fishnets!  Here is a small sampling of what the show entailed:

At Rehearsal...Cell Block Tango Girls

All that Jazz

Cell Block in Action

Yes, I got quite comfortable in this get up

So now that these wonderful things have passed...I hope to pick up my camera again.  Here is to happy blogging in the sweet summer time.
